THERE WOULDN'T BE ALLERGIES!
ALLERGIES SUCK! ALLERGIES ARE THE WORST THING IN THE WORLD! WHY ARE WE AS HUMAN BEINGS ALLERGIC TO NATURE? WHY????????????????
Moving on, yesterday I got to spend the whole day exploring Kansas City. It's a really great city, very clean, lots of restaurants and clubs and theatres, parks, shopping, and lots of fountains. After finishing my post from yesterday and leaving Starbucks, I wandered around and found a hotel where I asked for a map. Of course the hotel I find is probably the nicest hotel in Kansas City haha, but the concierge was very helpful.
So for those of you who don't know, Kansas City is kind of split into different sections, but they are spread out over a larger area. So I was walking around the downtown area for a bit, where the Spring Center is, and then I took a bus to the Crown Center, where there is Union Station, the Crown Center Shops, the Bloch fountain (not related to the dance company), and the national World War One memorial and museum (which was closed by the time I got there, but I gotto walk around the memorial.
These are some buildings around the downtown area.
This is the outside of the Crown Center
This is a statue dedicated to George Washington
Outside of Union Station they has this HUGE chopper because they were featuring a whole American Chopper display inside. I wasn't hugely interested in it, haha, but I did take a couple pictures when I went inside the station after I visited the Memorial.
Inside the center was the Coterie Theatre! We had rented materials from them this past summer at The Little Theatre on the Square, so it was really funny that I happened to run into it!
I also got a really awesome pair of shoes at a Halls store, photo to come later :) I also stopped by a place called Chip's Chocolate Factory, and they had won a Food Network award for their fudge, so I had to get a piece. Their special that day was their Pumpkin Pie fudge, and it's really delicious. It tastes exactly like pumpkin pie filling, but the texture is really smooth and creamy, which makes it especially really good fudge.
This is the Bloch fountain, and in the background is the World War One Memorial on the hill.
This is a view from on top of the memorial!
The back wall of the memorial.
Inscription on the pillar.
The front of the memorial. The two things on either side are supposed to be sphinx with their wings covering their faces. I don't know what that is supposed to symbolize, but to me they look more like the droid transport ships in Start Wars: Episode One haha.
Inside Union Station
One of the choppers on display
At Union Station they had all these Barnum and Bailey cakes on display!
Apparently there is a competition haha
For dinner I was recommended to go to a place called Jack Stack for BBQ
It was the fanciest BBQ place I've ever been in haha. I got Burnt Ends with cheesy corn and hickory smoked beans. Everything was really good, and the meat wasn't smothered in BBQ sauce which I liked, but it was no Dinosaur BBQ :) The area is really nice though and there are a couple of restaurants all connected together, this one, a German restaurant, and Lidia's Italy, which I think refers to Lidia the cook on TV!
At the end of the day I saw the movie Horrible Bosses, which was one of those stupid funny movies, but worth seeing if you like that kind of humor. There was a joke pretty much the whole movie, and actually Jennifer Aniston was surprisingly funny. When I got my ticket, it was $12, which I thought was kind of steep, and then they asked me to pick my seat, which I thought was odd. But when I walked in I realized it was one of the those theatres that serves you food if you want to buy some! I didn't get food, but the seat was super comfy and even reclined! I hadn't been in a seat like that since I watched a movie at the Dubois's in Sullivan haha.
In the end it was a great day and I got to see so much of the city. I'm looking forward to being able to explore a little more tomorrow :)
P.S. Eating out alone at new restaurant's makes me feel like Rachel Ray on $40 A Day
P.P.S This Starbucks plays awesome music, and I want their playlist
(sorry there is no song clip, but Youtube doesn't have the soundtrack to Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day on it haha)
