Circle of Life
So here I am in Richmond, VA! Richmond is actually quite lovely, and the train is parked next to a pedestrian path that goes through the park on Belle Island to the other side of the river where the building is, so it makes for a pleasant walk! I have lots of pictures that I took the first day walking around, but unfortunately I don't have my phone connector so those will be uploaded later.
For Valentine's Day I made these Mini Raspberry Cheesecakes and they came out really good! It's a great recipe, and I think what I want to do is experiment with different kinds and flavors so I can always make mini cheesecakes! The recipe is here: http://abitchinkitchen.blogspot.com/2011/02/mini-raspberry-swirl-cheesecakes.html (this is a great food blog. I've made a lot of their recipes and they always come out really well!)
On Tuesday I walked into downtown Richmond and went to the American Civil War Museum which is on the site of the old Tredagar steel factory. It's actually quite a nice little museum, and there is a park around it where you can see relics and old buildings from the factory that was shut down years ago. After the museum I walked to Capitol Park where you can walk by the Capitol building along with a lot of other older, very colonial looking buildings, as well as the old mayor house where three former presidents resided before they became president.
During my walking around I stoppe at a place called Gibson's Grill, where I got a blackened tilapia sandwich with a fennel tzatiki sauce that was very tasty. Billy and Taylor were there also, and we had a drink that Billy made up at the bar. It was Ketel One Limon, St. Germain, and club soda with a lemon. Very very delicious indeed. (Upon some investigation I found that that drink is entitled the St. Tropez) I guess the normal version of the drink is pear vodka with St. Germain and champagne, which sounds really good as well. After drinks I walked to an Ethiopian restaurant called The Nile and had a bite to eat there as well. The food was very interesting, made with lots of spices and eaten with this very spongy bread. It was good, but I don't think I could eat there that often.
Today after the morning show, LaRena and I RAN over to the Landmark Theatre where we were able to catch a 1pm performance of The Lion King national tour. We didn't get to the theatre until 1:05pm, but luckily since it was a school show they had to hold the start time for all the schools to get in to the theatre. We paid $26 for student rush tickets in the ORCHESTRA ROW G! It was great! The production was actually very well done and the cast very talented. And the pit sounded amazing! They travel with three keyboards, violin, guitar, a couple brass players, flute, and FOUR percussion players, including a marimba player who plays a full-size marimba. It was awesome. Well gotta run, time for a show tonight. I probably won't be able to update for a little bit since we have two shows tomorrow (3 and 7) and then a six-pack this weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 11, 3, and 7). Whew it's gonna be a long weekend!

I Will Always Love You
Sorry it's been a while since I updated, I've been oddly busy this past week, since so many things were so close to the train in Greensboro. Let's see, where did I leave off...
So that coffee shop in Greensboro is called Sessions and it's fantastic. Good beer, good wine, and really good coffee drinks. I ended up spending a lot of time there after shows playing Yahtzee one night, and The Game of Life: Haunted Mansion another night while watching episodes of Hoarders on their TV which plays Netflix.
Taylor, LaRena and I ended up walking to a nearby mall and after doing a little shopping we saw Beauty and the Beast 3D and The Woman in Black. Beauty and the Beast was wonderful, of course, and it was fun to watch it on the big screen. The Woman in Black was pretty good, not my favorite, but not terrible. I still would like to see the play version of it in London though. Afterwards, LaRena and I got dinner at this place called Sticks and Stones, which had DELICIOUS food. I got a burger with garlic rosemary fries, and LaRena got one of their specialty pizzas that had fried eggplant along with other delicious goodies. I was hoping to go back there to try their pizza too, but unfortunately I didn't make it back there, as the weather got REALLY REALLY cold at the end of the week.
There was also this Italian place on the corner called Bianca's where I stopped in to get a meal to go. I got eggplant rollatini that came with pasta, soup, salad, garlic bread, and a dessert for $13! And it was really good too! I ate half of it on the train and saved the other half for later because it was so much food!
Oh! There was also this game store called The Grinning Gamer that sold all kinds of strategy and card games, like Munchkin and some other ones that we've been playing on the train. Jen and I went there looking around at some games, and the guys in there were about to start playing Game of Thrones, the board game, so we sat down and joined them for a little bit! It reminded me that I still need to read that series, and maybe check out an episode of the TV show.
When we went shopping we stopped at Barnes and Noble and I got a book called How To Run A Theatre which is a book about Arts Management. I've really been enjoying it so far, and as informative as it is, it also has me really thinking about getting my masters in Arts Administration. I think it's something I definitely want to do in the future and something I'd be really good at, and the more I read the book, the more sure I am of that.
I have some pictures to share, but silly me left my phone connector at home, so those will have to be uploaded later. Oh well...
P.S. RIP Whitney Houston. You and your voice will not be forgotten

Ten Minutes Ago...
...I walked in the BEST COFFEE SHOP EVER! It's called Coffee Break and it has free wi-fi, delicious coffee drinks, also serves beer and wine, is a five minute walk from the train, and is open until 1am! So far I am loving Greensoboro, NC haha
Yesterday was the Superbowl and the Giants won! WOOHOO! I missed the first half and the halftime show because I was doing the elephant walk, but at least I got to see the "sit down" touchdown at the end haha.
So reasons for loving Greensboro:
-Coffee Break, the coffee shop I am currently sitting in
-The building is walking distance from the train
-The is a Food Lion a mile from the buliding
-There is a movie theatre 2 miles from the train
-There is a bar called The Blind Tiger that has live music performances all week
-There are lots of places to eat right by the train
I am so excited I can't even handle it haha. So much to do!

Sunday In The Park
So today is our last day in Greenville, and it's certainly been a very busy week. I've totally gotten behind on both working out and studying Italian because there is just so much to do and so many places I wanted to try to hit up. At least I was walking everywhere so that's good exercise haha.
On Tuesday I went to The Green Room because they have half-price appetizers from 4-6pm during the week. I ordered their mussels with pesto, and it was absolutely delicious and only $5! We also went to several other places that night, including The Art Bar, which had really good hand-crafted drinks. A couple other highlights from the week were The Cazbah, which is a very tasty tapas restaurant, Mary's at Falls Cottage, which serves very fresh dishes with local ingredients and sits right in the park, and Trappe Door, which has a large beer list of mostly Abbey beers, and a really great waitstaff with a delicious-looking menu (we didn't get a chance to eat there). Also by the park there is a bubble tea place called O-Cha, and it was REALLY GOOD bubble tea. I tried the mango-flavored milk tea and the coconut-flavored milk tea, both with jellies in the bottom.
Part of my other exciting news from the week is that I GOT AN IPHONE!!!!!!!! There is a Verizon retail store right on Main Street so I finally decided to stop in and get one and I LOVE IT. LOVE. IT. It is just so much better than my old phone in every way imaginable. Also, with the addition of my iPhone, I know have Instagram, and it might be my new obsession. It's surprisingly a lot of fun to take pictures of things and make them look artsy haha. Some examples are to follow briefly.
As well as going to a yoga class (which I actually really enjoyed too, even though I knew I looked foolish and kept laughing at myself) I went to the Greenville County Art Museum. It's a very tiny museum but it had some interesting pieces of mostly American artists and some local artists as well. Unfortunately you are not allowed to take pictures...oh well.
So part of what inspired me to write today is that I got one of the nicest compliments from an unexpected place. The paymaster told me that I inspired her with my enthusiasm for life and really taking full advantage of every city and finding fulfillment in this job. The whole reason I started this job is that I hoped that by being inspired by others, I would, in turn, inspire others as well, and apparently that is coming through, which means so much to me. As human beings, don't we all strive to make a lasting impression on others and hope to improve lives by motivating and inspiring others? With her words I feel like I am actually achieving what I hoped to accomplish with this blog. So thank you, Tika, for you've inspired me to keep being myself and keep striving for self-improvement in order to inspire others.
Well now that that's done, time for some pictures!
